Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has donated GHC 20,000 to the top four teams in this year's Ramadan Cup.

Following the conclusion of the competition on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, the NPP flagbearer for the 2024 presidential elections provided the financial incentive for the output of the four teams.

Ashiaman defeated Anyaa Zongo 2:0 in the final to win a record third Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup at the Fadama Astro Turf in Accra.

Prior to their triumph on Wednesday night, Ashiaman and Kasoa were the only Zongo communities to have won the prestigious trophy twice since its inception in 2015.

Ashiaman's success this year makes them the most successful team in the competition, hence the opportunity to keep the trophy, organisers confirmed.

Ashiaman continued with the invincible form they showed two weekends ago, when they brushed off Tema Zongo, Nungua Zongo, Mamobi, and Oda Zongo in the preliminary stage, round of 16, quarter finals, and semi finals respectively.

Anyaa Zongo also showed great form, defeating Nsawam Zongo, Shukura, Hohoe, and Fadama to reach their first ever finals in their second participation.

The final was graced by the Chief of Ashiaman and opinion leaders of the area as well supporters.

They cheered them on, inspiring a second half improved performance where they grabbed two goals to confirm their superiority.

The final whistle sparked wild celebration from Team Ashaiman, made up of a number young people who followed the them to Fadama.

Earlier in the day, hosts Fadama defeated Oda Zongo 1:0 to win the third place and the bronze medal.

BAWUMIA'S PACKAGE

Vice President and flagbearer of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia donated GHC 20,000 prize package for the winners, second placed third placed, and fourth placed teams respectively.

His package was announced at the ground, amidst cheers from the crowd.

Champions Ashaiman were rewarded a GHC 10,000 cash prize, second-placed Anyaa Zongo got GHC 5000 cash, third placed Fadama got GHC 3000, while fourth-placed Oda Zongo got GHC 2000 from the vice president's package.

Whereas Fadama's exciting youngster, Abass Osman was adjudged the best player of the nineth edition of the Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup, Ashaiman's agile goalkeeper Abdul Latif, won the best goalkeeper prize, and Abdul Razak of Ashaiman won the top scorer.

The final was graced by traditional leaders from the Zongo community, Imams, football administrators, and thousands of youth.
