The Chairman of the Local Organising (LOC) Committee for the Confederation of African Athletics Region II seniors athletics championships, Dr Kwame Baah-Nuakoh, has assured Ghanaians that the event will be well-organised despite a short notice to put it together.
"It is a huge task, but a surmountable task," he noted after the inauguration of the LOC on Friday.
"We need to apply ourselves. It's work that needs to be done," he emphasised.
About 450 athletes and officials will be in Ghana for the three-day event which starts on June 3 and will end on June 6.

With barely three weeks to the start of the competition, the LOC was inaugurated, but Dr Baah-Nuakoh noted that they would need a few areas to fix for a successful organisation of the championships which will serve as Paris 2024 Olympics qualifier.
"The notice is short, but luckily for us, a precedence has been set in terms of what happened at the African Games," he explained.
"Equipment is ready, so we are not spending a lot of time trying to bring equipment in and wondering whether they will be in time or whether they will be up to the standard or not. So, the technical aspects are probably covered."

However, he acknowledged that challenges remain, particularly in operational aspects.
"What is left is the operational side, finding the money to take care of the operational issues, and coordinating with agencies that provide essential services, security, safety, as well as medical, feeding, accommodation, and transportation of athletes and officials," he elaborated.
Despite the magnitude of the task, Dr. Baah-Nuakoh expressed confidence in the committee's ability to deliver.
"We know the job is huge, but we know it's possible, so we are preparing ourselves to get everything in place," he assured.
"We have already started working, so this inauguration is just the official one, but we have been working behind the scenes. So, we can rest assured that the competition will be properly organised."
The competition will take place at the University of Ghana stadium.
