Nana Ohene Ntow, Senior Campaign Advisor to independent presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen, has expressed admiration for former Electoral Commission (EC) Chairman, Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, describing him as the most outstanding Commissioner of the EC in Ghana's Fourth Republic.
In an interview on Channel One TV on Thursday, June 13, Ohene Ntow, who previously served as the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), commended Dr Afari-Gyan for his principled approach during his tenure under President John Agyekum Kufuor's administration.
Despite facing occasional mistrust from both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Ohene Ntow believes Dr Afari-Gyan consistently upheld fairness and impartiality in managing electoral processes, distinguishing him as a notable figure in Ghanaian electoral history.
Mr Ohene Ntow emphasised that Dr Afari-Gyan's commitment to maintaining integrity in elections contributed significantly to Ghana's democratic progress during his tenure.Â
He noted that Dr Afari-Gyan's leadership was marked by transparency and a dedication to ensuring that electoral outcomes reflected the will of the people.
“But honestly, let me say that after years of interacting with Afari Gyan, especially in my capacity as General Secretary through to that election, I think he’s probably one of the best Commissioners we have had in the fourth republic.
“I mean if you consider the situation where the NPP, sometimes doesn’t trust him, the NDC doesn’t trust him, that should tell you something about the man. I think he did quite an objective job," he said.
