Scores of aggrieved Ghanaian youth have taken to the streets of Accra to protest against the government.
Members of the Democracy Hub kicked off the #OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstration on Saturday at the Liberation Road Roundabout.

This followed their insistence on proceeding with their planned three-day protest at the Revolutionary Square, despite objections from the Ghana Police Service.

The police disagreed with the proposed route for the planned three-day demonstration.

According to the police, their main issue was with the choice of Revolutionary Square, located in front of Jubilee House, as the protest venue.
This morning, the security services set up roadblocks from 37 Military Hospital to Jubilee House in response to the gathering of angry youth.

The protesters have been burning campaign materials of the governing NPP in the middle of the road, accusing some officials of being complicit in the illegal activity.

The protest is intended to draw attention to key national issues such as galamsey, socio-economic injustice, unemployment, rising poverty, state capture, nepotism, corruption, and the need for judicial independence.

Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Police Service, ACP Grace Ansah Akrofi, says the police is approaching the situation with a de-escalation mindset.
