Gideon Boako, spokesperson for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has cautioned the public not to be misled by what he believes is the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) covert strategy to incite public discontent against the government through the recent Democracy Hub demonstration.
According to Dr Boako, the protest, which was ostensibly aimed at addressing the issue of illegal mining (galamsey), was part of a broader political agenda to undermine the current administration.
Speaking in an interview with Peace FM on Friday, September 27, Dr. Boako highlighted that while illegal mining remains a critical concern, the NDC’s involvement in the protest suggests ulterior motives beyond environmental conservation.
He argued that the timing of the demonstration, just months before the upcoming elections, points to an attempt to manipulate public sentiment against the government for political gain.
Dr Boako further urged Ghanaians to see through the NDC’s tactics, noting that the government has made significant efforts to tackle the galamsey crisis and protect Ghana’s natural resources.
He stated that instead of using protests as a tool for political sabotage, stakeholders should engage in constructive dialogue with the government to address the issue collaboratively.
He also called on the public to be cautious of political actors who disguise their true intentions under the guise of social or environmental causes, warning that such strategies only serve to divide the nation and derail ongoing efforts to resolve the challenges facing the country.
"Don’t be deceived by the NDC’s latent attempt to hide behind those protesters to cause public disaffection to the government. They are politically motivated to do anything to get a back name for the government to achieve their political agenda."
"Perish the thought should NDC come to power, should NDC come to power, all these guys leading the demonstration will have appointments in government."
