Political parties in the country are calling on Ghanaians to uphold the virtues of selfless service and sacrifice which represents the essence of Easter.According to the parties, the Savior, Jesus Christ, offered his life without any selfish consideration to be crucified so humanity will be saved. In separate interviews with Joy News, they therefore urged Ghanaians to put aside all parochial interests for the national good as Christians reflect on the Easter festivity, which ended yesterday. The National Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Lord Commey, said Ghanaians must learn to die for the nation before the country would achieve its set targets.“We have come this far, 50 years on because of the many sacrifices of our fore bearers. It is important that we sacrifice more because we are still not going to where we had all wished we would get. And that it is important that we continue to remind ourselves that Easter gives us another occasion in remembrance of suffering that Jesus went through to safe sinners but then He saw victory,” he said.Mr Commey said with determination and sacrifice Ghana would definitely overcome its hurdles of poverty among others.
He said: “Continuous sacrifice would give us the victory in putting this county on the pedestal that each and everyone want.”The Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Baba Jamal, charged politicians to emulate Jesus Christ by leading the way in demonstrating selfless service. He said Easter is a time of reflection, sacrifice where “our Lord Jesus Christ laid down his life for humanity. So I think is an opportunity for all of us as Ghanaians across the political divide to begin to look out for the interest of the nation.”He said: “I believe that politicians put much more premium on seeking the interest and welfare of the nation rather than their own parochial interest.”The General Secretary of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Nii Noi Dowuona, asked Ghanaians to reflect on the difficulties of the past and the way forward after the Easter festivities.“It is an event that calls for reflection on our way of life as a people. It is time of reflection on the mistakes we have done, survival as one people with a common destiny. Easter should remind us that not withstanding all these difficulties we need to hold ourselves together,” he said.
