Police patrol reportedly shot two suspected armed robbers on the Atebubu-Yeji highway in the Bono East Region in the early hours of Monday.
The Ghana News Agency (GNA) gathered that the suspects died during an exchange of gunfire between them and the police at the Kojokrom portion of the stretch in the Pru East District of the region.
A reliable police source confirmed the story to the GNA and added the bodies had since been deposited at the Yeji St Mathias Hospital for preservation.
The deceased had stormed the highway and succeeded in robbing some women traders of their valuables and money while travelling from Kumasi to Yeji.
Luck, however, eluded them when the police patrol team got information and rushed to the scene, leading to the exchange of gunshots.
The GNA learned further that some of the victims sustained gunshot wounds and were currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.
