The John Mahama transition team has challenged President Akufo-Addo's assertion that Ghana has returned to its pre-COVID economic growth trajectory.
Speaking on Wednesday at the inauguration of the joint transition team, President Akufo-Addo expressed confidence that the economy had recovered to its state during his first term in office.
However, the John Mahama transition team disagrees, insisting that significant challenges remain in the country’s economic landscape.

The spokesperson for the transition team, Felix Ofosu Kwakye remarked, “The facts are glaring; we are nowhere near the pre-COVID era, and we do not accept COVID as an excuse for the current economic situation.”
He further criticized the President's claim, saying, “It is a stretch to suggest that we are suddenly out of the woods or that the economic problems have been resolved—they have not. High inflation, a steep exchange rate, struggling businesses, and widespread hardship are still prevalent.”
Mr Ofosu Kwakye emphasized that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is prepared to tackle the nation's economic challenges.
“We in the NDC have no illusions about the task ahead. We know we are inheriting a shattered economy with finances in disarray. It will take real hard work to lift us out of the doldrums,” he added.
