The spirit of giving and compassion was on full display in the Volta Region as the Duamenefa Foundation, in collaboration with the Tanko Foundation, began a life-changing initiative to support the sick, the poor, and orphans during the yuletide season.
Starting at St. Anthony's Hospital in Dzodze, Ketu North District, the campaign has touched the lives of over 1,500 patients and orphans, with more beneficiaries expected in the coming days.
Speaking during the event, the Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation, Mr. Ketaman Emmanuel Evortepe, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Tanko Foundation, led by Honorable Gabriel Kwamigah Tanko Atokple, also known as "Tobi Nyakore Akola," for their unwavering commitment to uplifting the vulnerable in society.

A Legacy of Giving
Highlighting the transformative partnership between the two foundations, Mr Evortepe recounted how the Tanko Foundation stepped in to support their efforts, particularly during difficult times. "Honorable Tanko came on board as a saviour when we were struggling to secure sponsorship for our programmes. His intervention has been nothing short of divine," he said.
The partnership has enabled the Duamenefa Foundation to expand its reach across over 200 communities in the Volta Region.
Through this collaboration, community representatives and reporters were trained to document and report on local issues, fostering grassroots development. Honourable Tanko personally financed the training programmes, donated eight motorcycles for community reporters, and even sponsored scholarships for foundation members to pursue higher education in the United States.
Empowering the Youth Through Sports
One of the flagship initiatives supported by the Tanko Foundation is the annual Duamenefa Regional Football Tournament, which began in 2017. The tournament, which started with 104 participating teams, grew to 124 teams in 2023, showcasing the untapped potential of youth in the region.
Honourable Tanko financed the entire tournament, investing over 200,000 Ghana cedis in 2022 alone, providing a world-class stage, transportation, and media coverage.

“This is a man who sees the potential in the youth and takes it upon himself to nurture it,” Mr Evortepe stated. "His contributions have given many young people the platform to showcase their talents and aspire for greater opportunities."
Touching Lives at St. Anthony's Hospital
At St. Anthony's Hospital, the first stop of the Yuletide outreach programme, the administrator, Mr William Ladzaka, expressed his gratitude to the Tanko Foundation for sponsoring the initiative. He noted that the hospital, which serves thousands of patients, faces significant infrastructural challenges and appealed to relevant authorities to come to their aid.
"We are deeply grateful to the Tanko Foundation for bringing hope to our patients during this festive season. This act of kindness is a reminder that together, we can overcome challenges and create a better future," Mr Ladzaka said.
A Call to Action
Honourable Tanko's philanthropic efforts have earned him the title "Savior of the Vulnerable," a testament to his dedication to improving lives. From financing peaceful election campaigns to providing logistical support for community development, his contributions extend far beyond charity—they are investments in the future of the Volta Region.

As the Yuletide outreach programme continues, both the Duamenefa Foundation and the Tanko Foundation remain committed to their shared vision of creating a more equitable society. “Let us all pray for Honourable Tanko,” Mr Evortepe urged. “He is a man who gives selflessly, not for political gain but out of a genuine desire to promote humanity. These are the kinds of people we need to drive development in our region.”
Looking Ahead
The collaboration between the Duamenefa and Tanko Foundations serves as a model for impactful philanthropy in Ghana. By addressing the needs of the vulnerable and fostering opportunities for growth, these organizations are paving the way for a brighter future.
As the festive season unfolds, the Volta Region can look forward to more stories of transformation and hope, thanks to the unwavering commitment of Honourable Gabriel Kwamigah Tanko Atokple and the Duamenefa Foundation.
