The Ghana Football Association has presented FIFA badges to twenty-two (22) Referees and Assistant Referees at a brief ceremony at the GFA Headquarters in Accra, on Tuesday January 21, 2025.
This follows an earlier announcement by FIFA, unveiling the official list of Ghana referees approved to officiate international matches for the year 2025.
The list comprises ten (10) Center Referees, ten (10) Assistant Referees, one (1) Futsal Referee, one (1) Beach Soccer Referee, and (1) Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
Twelve of the selected referees are men while eight of them are women. The selected referees will hold the badges for a period of one year before the badges return to FIFA.
The badges are awarded to the best performing officials in each country in from the previous year.
FIFA's Classification and Assessment Committee ranks officials based on their performance during the previous year and in the FIFA Test. Subsequently, officials who score high marks are then approved to to receive the badges per the number of referees assigned to each Member Association.
The match officials were each presented with a FIFA badge by President Kurt E.S Okraku, General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo and Chairperson of the Referees Appointment Committee, Christine Enyonam Zigah.
