The Chairman of the committee investigating the recent chaos during the ministerial vetting process Emmanuel Bedzrah, has announced that the Committee will start its public hearings to uncover the truth behind the violent incident at the Appointments Committee sitting on Thursday, January 30.
The clash between the majority and minority sides of the House during the vetting of ministerial nominees led to the destruction of public property, prompting the formation of the investigative committee by the Speaker, Alban Bagbin.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, February 3, Mr Bedzrah assured the public that the investigation would be both thorough and transparent.
He urged members of Parliament, media representatives, and witnesses who were present during the vetting to freely volunteer information.
To assist with the investigation, the committee has created a digital platform, including a WhatsApp channel, where individuals can submit multimedia evidence such as videos, audio recordings, and photographs.
“We will begin reviewing the video evidence from Parliament starting today,” Mr Bedzrah said. “Our goal is to carefully examine every piece of evidence to ensure a fair and impartial investigation.
”He also revealed that the committee had decided to solicit forensic services from the police to authenticate, analyze, and validate any multimedia evidence received from witnesses.
Mr Bedzrah further announced that public hearings would be held from Wednesday, February 5, allowing individuals to testify openly about what transpired on January 30.
"These hearings will offer an opportunity for those with firsthand knowledge of the chaotic scenes to come forward and share their accounts, "he said.
This committee was established by Speaker Alban Bagbin on January 31, 2025. Already, four MPs have been suspended for two weeks for their roles in the chaos.
The seven-member committee, chaired by Emmanuel Bedzrah, has been tasked with identifying those responsible for the disruptions and recommending appropriate actions.
