Three suspects, including students from Salaga Senior High School and non-students from the East Gonja Municipality in the Savannah Region, are set to appear before the Salaga Magistrate Court today, Thursday, 6 February 2025, in connection with a shooting incident on campus last Saturday that left several individuals injured.
The suspects, who were initially sent to court but faced a delay due to the absence of a magistrate, have been provisionally charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and causing harm, among other offences.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred during a routine school entertainment event on Saturday when two groups of day students from Kpembe and Salaga towns became embroiled in a confrontation.
One of the students retreated but later returned with a group of individuals, leading to the shooting and injuries. The injured were rushed to Salaga Hospital and later discharged.
Following the incident, police arrested 20 suspects from both sides on Monday and later released 17 after screening.
Meanwhile, concerned parents have been arriving at the school, prompting the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) to hold an emergency meeting today to discuss the situation and other related campus security concerns.
