The Institute of Statisticians and Data Scientists (ISDS) has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin on his re-election as Speaker of the ninth parliament of the Republic of Ghana.
His election reflects the confidence and trust placed in his leadership by Members of Parliament from across the political spectrum.
Mr. Bagbin's re-election marks another milestone in his distinguished political career.
Having previously served as speaker of the 8th Parliament, he played a crucial role in maintaining parliamentary oversight, fostering national unity, and upholding democratic values.
His tenure saw significant legislative reforms, improved transparency, and enhanced cooperation between the executive and legislative branches of government.
Mr. Bagbin, a seasoned lawmaker, has been a dominant figure in Ghana’s political landscape for decades.
Before assuming the Speakership, he was the longest-serving Member of Parliament, representing the Nadowli-Kaleo constituency for multiple terms.
His vast experience in legislative affairs, governance, and public policy makes him a fitting choice to lead the nation’s legislative arm once again.
In a formal letter signed by Executive Secretary James Amewudah and President/Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Nicholas N.N. Nsowah-Nuamah, ISDS praised Speaker Bagbin for his unwavering commitment to democratic principles and legislative excellence.
"Your election is a testament to the confidence and trust placed in your leadership by the Honourable Members of Parliament across the political spectrum,” ISDS stated.
“Your stewardship of the Eighth Parliament demonstrated a steadfast commitment to upholding democratic principles and fostering national unity."
The institute emphasized the importance of data-driven decision-making in governance, expressing its eagerness to collaborate with Parliament to enhance legislative oversight, improve policy formulation, and support national development initiatives.
As Speaker of Parliament, Bagbin is expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring that the legislative arm of government executes its functions effectively.
His leadership will be instrumental in addressing pressing national issues, enacting critical laws, and providing checks and balances to Ghana’s democratic governance.
With an increasingly dynamic political environment, his ability to mediate and build consensus among different political factions will be essential for legislative efficiency and national progress.
As Ghana embarks on another parliamentary session under his leadership, stakeholders, governance institutions, and civil society organizations will be keenly watching how Speaker Bagbin steers the affairs of Parliament.
His track record of dedication and leadership suggests that the Ninth Parliament will continue to play a crucial role in shaping Ghana’s democratic governance.
ISDS has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Parliament in leveraging statistical research and data science to inform policy decisions, improve governance, and contribute to sustainable national development.
