Afro Harmony is advocating for stronger royalty systems to support musical bands in Ghana.
Speaking on E Vibes Musical Band Series, the band’s deputy leader, Mac Hamlet, highlighted the struggles bands have faced in the past, particularly before going on tours.
According to him, while there is now more awareness and education about royalties, much more needs to be done to streamline the process and ensure bands receive their fair share.
“We need to work on the royalty system for bands, and how we promote bands for tours. It’s now that it’s getting better. Before, it was really hard for a band to go on a tour. If there was no artiste taking you along, it was really hard, but now the Creative Arts Ministry is coming on board with some nice packages for bands to be able to travel easily.
Sometimes you play for an artiste, and they know what you deserve, but they won't tell you. But now, the education is coming in, so everybody is getting to know what they deserve when they perform a song. Bands now know what they deserve.”
E Vibes, the show that delves into the backgrounds of celebrated personalities excelling in their chosen fields, is focusing this season on music bands in Ghana.
Dubbed #MusicalBandSeries, the program is dedicated to celebrating and highlighting the incredible journeys of Ghanaian musical bands, showcasing their triumphs, challenges, and the bonds that keep them together.
