BDO in Ghana was formally launched at a cocktail event at the Tang Palace Hotel in Accra on Friday, April 11.
It was under the theme “Elevating People, Elevating Business, Elevating Society,” which captures the essence of the BDO brand's manifesto.
Effective August 2024, SCG Chartered Accountants, a Ghanaian audit and accounting firm, classified A1 by the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana), joined BDO, the fifth largest international accounting network in the world.
The new firm operates under the name BDO located on the 8th Floor of Advantage Place, 23 Mayor Road, West Ridge, Accra, Ghana with George Katako as its Managing Partner.
The firm offers audit and assurance services, tax compliance and advisory services, business services outsourcing such as payroll and accounting, and a wide range of other professional services.

In attendance at the launch were Mark Stewart, BDO’s Director for Africa, and the Guest Speaker at the function, Thando Dalamba, Ag. South African High Commissioner to Ghana, representatives of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, Ghana Audit Service, Ghana Stock Exchange, Country Director (AICPA & CIMA), management staff of existing and prospective clients, alumni of SCG Chartered Accountants (the predecessor of BDO Ghana), other stakeholders, and some selected staff of BDO Ghana.

Insightful speeches were delivered by the Managing Partner, George Katako, the Special Guest, BDO’s Regional Director for Africa, Mark Stewart, who also formally launched the BDO brand in Ghana, and His Excellency, Thando Dalamba, the Ag. South African High Commissioner to Ghana
The Managing Partner, George Katako noted that SCG Chartered Accountants was established in 2009 as a professional audit and accounting firm in Ghana to provide audit, accounting, tax, payroll and advisory services.
With the accounting world going through dramatic changes, a range of resources and skills would be required to meet the opportunities that the developments present.
The BDO network thus gives the new firm access to a range of resources – knowledge, tech tools, policies and processes, and expertise, among others, to meet the evolving opportunities.
This would ensure continued high-quality support for the firm’s local and international clients with a dedicated team of highly skilled professionals and guarantee a client-focused approach and value-driven service enabled by technology.

During the official launch ceremony, BDO’s Regional Director for Africa, Mark Stewart, said BDO has had a long affiliation with SCG Chartered Accountants.
He congratulated the entire BDO Ghana team for its hard work, dedication, and professional excellence, which had made the formal admission of SCG Chartered Accountants into the BDO network possible due to the quality of service that the firm has consistently demonstrated in the market.
He noted that the launch marked the beginning of an exciting chapter, which underscores the strategic vision for Africa, which prioritises establishing a presence in Africa’s most dynamic economies.
He also stated that quality remains the cornerstone of BDO’s global reputation, which is the consistent benchmark across every BDO member firm worldwide, and clients in Ghana should, therefore, expect the same exceptional standard of service that distinguishes BDO globally reinforced by deep local insights and expertise.

Thando Dalamba, the Ag. South African High Commissioner to Ghana, in his remarks, reiterated that the launch represented more than a new chapter for one of the world’s leading audit and consulting firms, but also a shared vision of growth through collaboration.
The launch of BDO in Ghana also aligns with a broader continental agenda, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which is about enabling services to be provided more freely, professionals to collaborate more widely, and businesses to scale more rapidly.
He noted that with the entry of BDO in Ghana, another trusted name has been added to the legacy of excellence and professionalism, and he was confident that BDO would contribute to the development of Ghana’s auditing, financial advisory, and business strategy capabilities in line with global standards.

It is a very positive development as having access to BDO’s expertise globally will allow BDO in Ghana to expand its service offering to include domestic companies investing in overseas markets and to deliver balanced growth across all service lines – audit and assurance, tax, business services & outsourcing, and advisory services.
At the end of the programme, a networking session took place to provide opportunities for future partnerships and collaborations.
