Tensions flared at the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) following the rejection of the President’s nominee for Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alfredos Nii Anyetei.
Out of the total votes cast, only five assembly members voted in favour of the nominee, while nine opposed his confirmation, resulting in his rejection.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, who represented President John Dramani Mahama at the confirmation ceremony, acknowledged the charged atmosphere and emphasised the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns raised.
“We have noted the concerns raised, and as a government, we will work to resolve the issues,” she said.
Madam Ocloo indicated that the nominee may be re-presented for a second vote, adding that further decisions will be made based on the outcome.
“If the nominee is rejected again, we will take the necessary steps in line with procedure.”
She further appealed to the assembly members to reconsider their stance in the spirit of unity and progress.
“We are all one people. If our party is in power and we behave in ways that undermine its agenda, it is not fair to the vision we share for development,” she said.
