In the struggling farming community of Ofosu, located in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, access to clean and safe drinking water remains a major challenge — despite the recent construction of a mechanised borehole by AgroCrown West Africa Company Limited.
While the borehole has brought relief to parts of the community, many residents say it only benefits a limited few. The majority still depend on a distant, muddy stream shared with livestock for their daily water needs — for cooking, drinking, and bathing.
“We appreciate the borehole AgroCrown gave us, but it serves only one part of the community,” said Kosi Wotordzro, a 62-year-old farmer. “The rest of us still drink with animals. We feel forgotten.”
Living in Isolation
Beyond the water crisis, residents of Ofosu face a host of other hardships — including deplorable roads, lack of electricity, and no access to healthcare.
Expectant mothers often endure hours of travel on motorbikes to reach the nearest clinic, while schoolchildren trek long distances barefoot just to attend classes. During the rainy season, the community is sometimes completely cut off from surrounding towns.
“We are not asking for much, just water, roads, and a small clinic,” lamented Madam Dorcas Aliglo, a resident. “Are we not part of Ghana too?”

A Call for Support
A Call for Broader Support
While expressing gratitude for the initial intervention by AgroCrown, community leaders say more support is urgently needed.
“This is an SOS to the government and NGOs. Help us. Don’t let AgroCrown carry this burden alone,” said Chief Tetteh Komla.
As many continue to rely on contaminated water sources, the people of Ofosu hope their cries will be heard.
“See us. Hear us. Help us,” they plead.
