Black Stars midfielder Lawrence Agyekum has expressed gratitude to the national team’s technical team for the support and guidance they've given him since his debut.
The Cercle Brugge midfielder received his first call-up from coach Otto Addo during the World Cup qualifiers in March 2025.
He made his debut by coming on as a second-half substitute for Thomas Partey in Ghana’s win over Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium.
In an exclusive interview with Joy Sports’ Lawrence Baidoo, Agyekum praised Otto Addo and his backroom staff for making him feel welcome.
“They told me that if I ever need anything, I shouldn’t hesitate to talk to them. Even on the pitch, if I need advice or support, I can always reach out. That kind of mentality gives confidence to a new player and shows that the coaches are behind you,” he said.
He added, “There are some coaches it's hard as a player to reach out to them because you know if I tell him he has got nothing to do about it, or maybe he might feel hatred towards the player.
For me, the technical staff have been good. They've really helped me a lot.”
After playing 46 matches for Cercle Brugge in the 2024/2025 season, scoring three goals and providing two assists, Agyekum hopes to earn more minutes under Addo in upcoming national team fixtures.
