Achimota School has taken a significant step towards reviving its historic farm as part of its 100th-anniversary celebrations in 2027.
The school has launched a Centenary Raffle to raise funds for the project, which aims to restore the once-thriving farm to its former glory.
The farm revival project was officially launched on April 12, 2025, with a health walk on campus and a food bazaar at the Old Achimotan Association (OAA) Secretariat. The 25-acre farm will serve as a living classroom, teaching students modern farming techniques while boosting food security and community involvement.
Maize Production: 5 acres dedicated to maize production for the school's feeding programme.
Vegetable Farming: 15 acres for open-field vegetable farming, including crops like tomatoes, onions, and okra.
Habanero and Chili Pepper Production: 4.5 acres for high-demand crops.
Greenhouse Farming: 0.5-acre greenhouse for high-value crops like tomatoes, bell peppers, and cucumbers.
The project is expected to cost GH₵ 25 million, which will cover land acquisition, infrastructure, and operational costs. The OAA has partnered with the National Lottery Authority to run the Centenary Raffle through the Caritas Lottery Platform.
To ensure sustainability, the farm will be a commercial venture, Utilize modern irrigation systems for year-round farming, Have pack houses for cooling crops to minimize post-harvest losses
The Old Achimotan Association and Achimota school therefore are calling on all Old Achimotans, corporate sponsors, and the general public to support this cause by buying raffle tickets.
Each ticket costs GH₵ 100, and lucky winners stand a chance to win fantastic prizes.
