Member of Parliament (MP) for the Effia constituency in the Western Region, Isaac Yaw Boamah Nyarko, has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death of Akwatia MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi.
Speaking in an emotional interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Mr. Boamah said he is struggling to come to terms with the news, as the late MP showed no signs of illness during the time they spent together over the weekend.
“I still can’t believe the news about his demise because I have been with him since Friday until around 11 am Sunday when he left for Akwatia. He wasn’t sick,” he recalled.
Mr. Boamah said they had both attended the Miss TTU event on Saturday along with other New Patriotic Party (NPP) members including Hon. Asafo Agyei, Rudolf Amoako Gyampah, and Kobby Okyere Darko.
“We all ate, laughed, and engaged with some party members. So I don’t think what I’m hearing is true. Someone should tell me it’s not the truth,” he mourned.
According to him, Mr. Kumi informed him upon arriving home and had even prepared for his moot exercise at the Ghana School of Law, scheduled for Monday, July 7, 2025 the same day he was reported dead.
“I was waiting for his call so we could go to Parliament together, only to hear that he had passed away,” he added.
The unexpected demise of Ernest Yaw Kumi has sent shockwaves across Parliament and the country. He was a first-time MP whose legal and political careers were both just beginning to blossom.
