After years of distinguished service in Ghana’s media space, Edem Knight-Tay is embarking on a new professional journey.
The accomplished broadcaster and former Programmes Manager of Joy 99.7 FM has been appointed Head of Corporate Communication at Universal Merchant Bank (UMB), one of Ghana’s leading indigenous financial institutions.
The appointment brings to the fore Edem’s deep experience in strategic communication, media leadership, and stakeholder engagement. At Joy FM, she was known not just for her work on-air, but for her steady hand behind the scenes:
curating content, mentoring talent, and helping shape the station’s programming identity.
In her new role at UMB, Edem is expected to lead communication initiatives that enhance the bank’s brand visibility, strengthen public engagement, and reinforce its commitment to clients and partners. Her reputation for thoughtful messaging and clear audience connection is seen as a strong fit for this next step in her professional journey.
With more than a decade of experience in broadcasting, Edem’s work has spanned multiple layers of media management. She was the voice behind Home Affairs, Joy FM’s long-running Saturday morning lifestyle show focused on family, relationships, and parenting. The programme became a weekend staple for many under her calm, insightful, and accessible presentation style.
Her move to the corporate sector highlights her versatility as a communicator and leader. Those familiar with her work describe her as a strategic thinker, an empathetic team player, and a consistent performer with a deep sense of purpose.
Ken Ansah, CEO of The Multimedia Group, paid tribute to Edem’s contribution and character:
“Edem has been an integral part of Joy FM and The Multimedia Group. Her moving on is bittersweet: we’re proud of her evolution, but we will certainly miss her leadership, creativity, and calm. We wish her nothing but success in this exciting new chapter at UMB. She carries with her the heart of Joy FM, and we know she’ll make us proud.”
Edem holds an MBA in Human Resource Management from the University of Ghana Business School. She also earned First Class Honours in Film Directing from the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), where she won Best Directed Movie for Image Africa. Additionally, she holds a certificate in Event Management, Public Relations and Communications from the Ghana Institute of Journalism, and is an alumna of Okuapeman School.
As she transitions into this new role, Edem carries with her the goodwill of colleagues, the admiration of listeners, and a proven record of professional integrity.
Her contribution to Joy FM remains indelible, and she now brings that same depth of insight and communication skill to the evolving corporate landscape.
