Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, says a five-member committee has been constituted to investigate the recent clash between relatives of an accident victim and medical staff at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
The incident, which stemmed from alleged delays in treating a critically injured patient, escalated into verbal exchanges and the assault of a nurse, prompting hospital management to call in the Ghana Police Service to restore order.
According to the minister, the committee, comprising a lawyer, an auditor, a human resource officer, a medical doctor, and a nurse, was inaugurated after his visit to the hospital on Monday.
“We have already commissioned an investigation into the matter. The committee will look into what transpired so that the ministry can implement its recommendations,” Mr Akandoh told JoyNews’ The Pulse.
He explained that the probe will adopt a dual approach: the ministry will handle the administrative aspects, while the police address the criminal dimension.
“These are the two angles we will be working from, so the law will take its own course,” he added.
Mr Akandoh assured that the outcome of the investigation will help strengthen hospital protocols and enhance safety for both patients and healthcare workers.
