Road construction works in parts of Akwatia are continuing days after Tuesday’s by-election, despite earlier suspicions that the projects were hurriedly rolled out to sway voters.
JoyNews observed extensive roadworks across the constituency, including in Kusi and Tarkrowase, the hometowns of both parents of MP-elect Bernard Bediako. A day after the polls, trucks and graders were still on site, with active work underway.
At Kusi, tipper trucks delivered loads while graders prepared the ground for asphalting. Similar scenes were recorded in Tarkrowase.

A contractor working on some of the projects, who spoke off the record, revealed that the roads had been abandoned for nearly seven years.
He explained that the project now runs on a daily contract arrangement.
While acknowledging that construction began less than a week before the election, he dismissed claims of political motivation, stressing that the timing had nothing to do with the by-election.
NDC candidate Bernard Bediako secured 18,199 votes (about 54%), reclaiming the crucial swing seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
His closest rival, Solomon Kwame Asumadu of the NPP, polled 15,235 votes, while Owusu Patrick of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) managed 82 votes.
