The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the Kantanka Group of Companies.
The renowned inventor, philanthropist and religious leader, popularly nicknamed the “Star of Africa”, passed away on Thursday, 11 September 2025, after a short illness.
In a statement signed by the NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party described the late Apostle as more than a spiritual leader, praising his ingenuity and contributions to Ghana’s technological advancement.

“He embodied local ingenuity, innovation and the can-do spirit of the African,” the statement noted, highlighting his exploits in agriculture, industrial innovation and automobile manufacturing through the Kantanka Group.
The party further acknowledged Apostle Safo’s role in nurturing wholly Ghanaian-owned enterprises, particularly Kantanka Automobile, which has become one of Africa’s leading technology conglomerates.
According to the NPP, his entrepreneurial vision established him as a generational inventor and an enduring inspiration to Ghanaians.
Apostle Safo was also remembered for his political support to the NPP, especially in the Dome Kwabenya Constituency, where his daughter, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, served three terms as a Member of Parliament.
“The late Apostle was a great pillar of support for the NPP, particularly in the Dome Kwabenya Constituency,” the statement recalled.
Consoling the bereaved family and the Kristo Asafo Mission, the NPP extended its condolences to the nation as a whole.
“The party also commiserates with the rest of the nation for the painful loss of this extraordinary, illustrious citizen. May the soul of our dearly departed find comfort in God’s bosom, and may the family he left behind, and indeed, all of us in the Party and beyond, find fortitude to bear this great loss,” the statement concluded.
