The Essaase Bontefufuo community in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region is seeking government’s support to enhance local healthcare services.
Residents are requesting the deployment of health professionals and technicians to bolster the efforts of the existing medical team for improved healthcare delivery.
The Chief of Bontefufuo, Nana Siaw Kesse II, commended the significant contribution of Asanko Mines in commissioning a hospital for the community.
He however says inadequate health professionals and technicians to serve patients’ needs remains a major challenge.
He is prevailing on the government to help in resourcing the hospital.
The chief raised the concern when a cohort of the KNUST MSc Health Entrepreneurship group partnered with the Bontefufuo Traditional Council to advocate against deadly diseases.

They focused on providing essential health screenings and renewing health insurance for the vulnerable populations.
Over 500 community members were reached to provide free health screenings and assist with the renewal of their National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) memberships.
Project lead, Grace Gertrude Tetteh-Boateng, stressed the importance of actively advocating for awareness of slowly progressing diseases in communities.

Harriet Asante Mensah, a public relations officer for the National Health Insurance Scheme in the Amansie West and South Districts, highlighted a significant challenge of shortage of staff.
She is urging the government to recruit additional personnel and establish a satellite office to facilitate NHIS registration for people living in remote areas of the district.
