Global motorcycle adventurer and advocate Ibi Sofekun is on an ambitious mission to ride through 40 countries, with Ghana marking his 37th stop. This means he has just three more countries left to complete his journey.
He began his adventure on June 28, 2025, and hopes to wrap it up on October 5, 2025.
Along the way, he has traveled through Eastern Europe, with Romania being his 15th country.
Speaking on Prime Morning on Joy Prime, Sofekun shared details of his journey and his goals.
“It has been smoother than I imagined, but there are moments that give you lifelong lessons. I rode 3,500 kilometers through the Sahara. That’s an experience everyone should try,” he said.
On addressing societal issues during his travels, he noted: “I was surprised that some people tried to bring the issue of boys’ mental health to the table, it became a captivating discussion everywhere.
"When you look at major problems in the world, gun crimes, fraud, theft—they are mostly centered around men. We have become the problem; none originate from women.
“So, the question I ask is: what kind of boys grow into such men? We may not be able to correct all the men who have gone astray, but we can stop the cycle that produces them.”
For him, motorcycling has also been a form of therapy: "Riding a bike at this age, close to 70, is therapeutic.”
When asked about his favorite memories, he recalled: "Somewhere between Andorra and San Marino because they are high up in the mountains and absolutely beautiful. But let’s not forget the Sahara it’s a strange place.
"The ocean runs just 250 meters to your right, so close and so blue.”
Sofekun added that, by God’s grace, he hopes to return to Nigeria by October 5, 2025.
He also reflected on his mission: "I see myself as John the Baptist. I have planted this seed called Project HELP, where ‘HELP’ is an acronym: H – Hope E – Encourage them, L – Lead by example (fathers must take charge), P – Policies and places that protect children."
