Ghana is preparing to roll out a blockchain-based track-and-trace system to trace every gram of gold it exports. Sammy Gyamfi disclosed that the Ghana Gold Board is far advanced in procuring the technology.
“By the end of 2026, every gram of gold purchased by the GoldBod will be traceable to its sustainable mine of origin,” he said.
He explained that the system will include compliance audits to ensure that licensed mines do not act as fronts for illegal operations.
“This is crucial to maintaining integrity across the supply chain,” he added.
Mr Gyamfi noted that the system forms a key part of Ghana’s strategy to formalise ASM and prevent illegal sourcing.
“This is how we modernise the industry while protecting the environment and promoting transparency,” he said.
