Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has initiated legal action against Wendell Nana Yaw Yeboah of the pressure group Democracy Hub, accusing him of making defamatory statements during a live radio interview that later spread widely on social media.
Separate lawsuits have also been filed against Aluta FM and its presenter, Agyaba Owusu — popularly known as Agyaba Kwaku — who hosted the November 18, 2025 edition of the Anopa Koko Morning Show where the remarks were made.
The Madina-based station, Aluta 92.1 FM, has a sizeable online following, amplifying the reach of the broadcast.

According to the court filings, Mr Yeboah alleged — in both Twi and English — that Dr Amoakohene was involved in illegal mining, known locally as galamsey, saying on air:
“Alright, mene wo kasa sesei, the Ashanti Regional Minister is into Galamsey,” and “Alright, as I speak with you right now, the Ashanti Regional Minister is into Galamsey.”

Dr Amoakohene insists the claims were baseless, deliberately malicious, and intended to damage his reputation.
The suit further accuses Aluta 92.1 FM of intensifying the spread of the allegations by livestreaming the interview on Facebook and later republishing the content.

The minister also alleges the station produced and circulated a promotional flyer repeating the claims, increasing public backlash and ridicule.
He is seeking damages as well as a full retraction of the statements.

The case unfolds amid heightened national conversations about illegal mining and growing demands for accountability within political leadership — a debate that remains highly charged in Ghana.
Mr Yeboah was released from police custody on Wednesday night, December 3, after spending a week at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

His arrest stemmed from a petition filed by Mr Daniel Sasu Omari and two others on behalf of three regional ministers he named on live radio as being involved in galamsey: Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey of Eastern Region, Dr Frank Amoakohene of Ashanti Region, and Joseph Nelson of Western Region.
