The former Finance Minister, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, has accused the NDC government of excessive public relations over routine fiscal activities, particularly the payment of energy sector debts.
According to the Karaga Member of Parliament, the government’s announcement of a US$1.4 billion payment towards energy sector obligations is being portrayed as an extraordinary achievement, even though similar actions were taken by the previous administration without fanfare.
Dr Amin Adam argued that the payment is not new and should not be presented as a unique intervention by the current government.
“The NDC government does PR with everything. Paying Energy Sector debts of $1.4 billion is not new,” he stated, insisting that such payments are a normal part of responsible public financial management rather than a basis for political celebration.
He pointed out that official government records contradict the narrative being promoted by the NDC.
“As captured in the 2025 Budget presented by the NDC government, the previous NPP government paid $1.4 billion of the energy sector debts in 2024 without making noise about it,” Dr Amin Adam said, stressing that the facts are already documented in budget statements laid before Parliament.
The Karaga MP maintained that governments should focus more on transparency, consistency, and long-term solutions to the energy sector’s challenges rather than what he described as propaganda.
He cautioned that the selective presentation of information risks misleading the public and undermining the objective assessment of economic management across successive administrations.
