A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Nyama, has criticised the Nyhiaso MP, Dr Stephen Amoah, over comments suggesting that former President Nana Akufo-Addo preferred Dr Mohammed Amin Adam for the position of Finance Minister because of ethnic considerations.
Mr Nyama described the comparison between Dr Amoah and Dr Amin Adam as misplaced and disrespectful.
In a Facebook post on Monday, January 12, Mr Nyama dismissed Dr Amoah’s claims, insisting that Dr Amin Adam earned the position on merit and competence, not based on ethnicity.
He said Dr Amin Adam, whom he referred to as “Amin Anta,” has always been intellectually gifted and capable of handling the economy at a critical moment.
“You’re comparing yourself to Amin Anta. Don’t do that. Amin has always been gifted. I went to secondary school with him, and he has always been gifted,” Mr Nyama said in a video posted on his social media pages, adding that the performance of the economy in the latter part of 2024 reflected Dr Amin Adam’s brilliance.
Mr Nyama argued that Dr Amin Adam assumed office at a time when the economy was in severe distress and managed to stabilise it.
“He took over a rotten economy and fixed it,” he stated, questioning why Dr Amoah would downplay that contribution while acknowledging that the current government is benefiting from policies implemented under the NPP.
He further suggested that Dr Amoah would not have commanded public confidence as Finance Minister.
“When you, Sticka, sit on radio and television and say the NDC is reaping the benefits of the NPP’s policies on the economy, who was at the helm? It is Mohammed Amin Anta.
"Can you imagine you, Sticka, being the Finance Minister? Ghanaians would have even laughed at us,” Mr Nyama said.
