Member of Parliament for Obuasi West and a member of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, Kwaku Kwarteng, has expressed confidence that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful is best placed to address Ghana’s unemployment crisis if elected president.
Mr Kwarteng acknowledged that both current and past political leaders share responsibility for the nation’s economic challenges, but stressed that a change in approach is needed to put the country on a different path.
“Kennedy Agyapong takes some of the blame; I also take some of the blame, because I have been in the corridors of politics for quite some time. So, we all take a portion of the blame,” he said.
He urged delegates to support Agyapong in the party’s upcoming presidential primary, warning against continuing policies that he said have left many young Ghanaians unemployed.
“But are we going to continue to walk the path that has led us to our development partners 19 times if you add the structural adjustment programme and HIPC? Are we going to walk the same path that is churning out our youth in huge numbers on the streets without jobs?” he asked.
The NPP is set to hold its presidential primary on January 31, 2026, with Kennedy Agyapong, former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former General Secretary Ing. Kwabena Agyepong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Dr Bryan Acheampong contesting the flagbearer position.
