The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has visited the Sofoline Garages in Kumasi following a devastating fire outbreak that destroyed several vehicles and commercial structures.
Accompanied by the Kwadaso Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Eric Asibey, and other officials, the Regional Minister toured the affected area to assess the extent of damage and interact with victims of the incident.
The fire, which broke out on Sunday, January 25, razed numerous cars and workshops, leaving many mechanics, traders, and artisans counting their losses and struggling to come to terms with the impact on their livelihoods.
Dr. Amoakohene expressed deep sympathy on behalf of the government, assuring that measures would be put in place to support their recovery.
He emphasised the government’s commitment to working with relevant agencies to help victims rebuild and restore their businesses as quickly as possible.
The Regional Minister directed the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire to prevent future occurrences.
He also commended GNFS, the security agencies, and other emergency responders for their swift intervention, which helped to contain the blaze and prevented it from spreading further.
The Sofoline fire outbreak adds to growing concerns over fire safety in commercial enclaves, with calls from stakeholders for improved preventive measures and emergency preparedness across the region.
