A flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, has conceded defeat in the party’s ongoing presidential primaries, following early indications that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is leading the race.
Preliminary results trickling in from several constituencies show Dr Bawumia ahead of his competitors as ballot counting continues across polling centres nationwide.
In a video obtained by JoyNews, Mr Agyapong is seen placing a congratulatory phone call to Dr Bawumia, acknowledging his apparent victory.
“Mahamudu, congratulations. I have seen that you have done it,” he said.
Describing the contest as a tough one, Mr Agyapong stressed the importance of unity and acceptance in the aftermath of the primaries, noting that the party’s collective strength must take priority.
“It’s a tough battle, but it’s very important to hold the party together and make sure everything is fine,” he added.
Mr Agyapong also pledged his continued support for Dr Bawumia, assuring him of his readiness to assist whenever needed.
“As usual, you know I’m always available. We will meet at the party’s headquarters,” he said.
The NPP primaries are expected to formally conclude once final results from all constituencies are collated and declared.
