Asante Kotoko will not be able to defend their MTN FA Cup title following their loss to Aduana FC in the last 16 of the competition.
The Porcupine Warriors suffered a penalty shootout defeat to the Dormaa-based side at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, losing 4-2 after a goalless draw in regular time.
Kotoko came but the encounter looking to go past the visitors and book a place in the quarterfinals as they chased a title defence.
Abdul Karim Zito’s side were awarded a penalty in the opening half of the game.
However, skipper Samba O’Neil was unable to convert from 12 yards out as the goalkeeper made a good save to deny the defender.
Aduana had chances of their own to score but also fluffed their lines and the game ended goalless, needing penalties to decide the game.
Kotoko missed two of their opening four while Aduana scored four of their first five kicks to seal the win and advance into the next round.
Aduana will now face Techiman Liberty Youth in the next round of the competition.
