President John Mahama has appointed Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu as the High Commissioner-Designate to Nigeria.
The announcement, made official by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 1, 2026, names Abu to represent Ghana’s interests in Africa’s most populous nation.
The appointment underscores the importance Ghana places on its bilateral relations with Nigeria, a crucial economic and political partner in the West African sub-region.

As High Commissioner-Designate, Abu is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening the ties of commerce, culture, and diplomacy between the two neighboring countries.
The appointment is subject to the formal acceptance and diplomatic protocols of the Nigerian government.
The new appointment comes just weeks after President Mahama ordered the immediate recall of the previous High Commissioner, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed (Baba Jamal), following allegations of voter inducement.
Baba Jamal was recalled on February 7, 2026, after participating in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency, which he won.
