Central Regional Minister Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah has expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones in the violent attack at New Winneba, describing the incident as “an unfortunate situation.”

Three people were killed and about 15 others seriously injured during the violence, which has heightened tensions in the community.

The Minister visited the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital to sympathise with the victims and their families and to assess the condition of those receiving treatment.

In an interaction with the media, he said the government and the Regional Security Council share in the grief of the bereaved families and will take steps to restore lasting peace to the area.

“It’s an unfortunate situation, especially for those who have lost. We will use this opportunity to send our condolences to the bereaved families and say that we mourn with them,” he said.

Mr Eduamoah disclosed that 12 of the injured persons had been discharged as of Wednesday morning, while eight remained at the hospital undergoing further medical assessment.

“Unfortunately, we lost three people and about 20 people were seriously wounded. But the good news is that as of this morning, 12 of them have been discharged, and eight of them are still here for further medical investigations,” he said.

Mr Eduamoah, who is also Chairman of the Central Regional Security Council, urged residents and the various groups involved in the dispute to remain calm and allow the police to investigate the incident.

“Let’s not take the law into our own hands. We ask the various groups to calm down as the police go ahead with their investigation. Their grievances will be heard, and we will ensure that we have coexistence in the community,” he appealed.

Six suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the violence as police investigations continue.

The attack is believed to be linked to a land dispute, although authorities say they have not yet identified any specific faction as being responsible for the violence.
