An 84th minute goal from substitute Gilbert Fiamenyo gave Accra Hearts a narrow advantage over Olympique de Ngor at the Accra Sports Stadium in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Accra Hearts of Oak fell behind to their Senegalese opponents via a Robert Badiane goal in the 34th minute.
They were poor in the first half and struggled to break down a well drilled opponent.
Selasi Adjei struggled to get into spaces upfront, while star man, Shaun October struggled against the physical stature of his opponents, curtailing his runs down the left flank.
Togolese front man Foovi Aguidi gave a quiet Accra Sports Stadium some hope with the equaliser in the 64th minute and unsurprisingly South African October was involved.
Ngor goalkeeper, Diallo dropped a free lock from October leaving Foovi with the easiest of tasks to tap in the equaliser. Upping the pressure in the late stages of the game in search of a winner,Hearts were frustrated by a calm Ngor defence manned by captain Baye and Diop who gave little away as they tried to hold on for a draw.
Ngor's handwork was undone, however in the 84th minute when a ran from Mensah through their defence saw him lay the ball at the feet of Fiamenyo to give Hearts the advantage ahead of the second leg in a fortnight.
