Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan was left behind as the Al Ain team travelled to Uzbekistan on Monday evening for their Asian Champions League match against Pakhtakor.
The UAE giants claim the 29-year-old has suffered an infection as the reason for his exclusion from the 20-man squad for Wednesday’s clash in Tashkent.
Gyan had picked up a thigh strain in the lead up to Al Ain’s 1-1 draw at Al Dhafra on Friday.
He has however been training lightly since.
Al Ain coach Zlatko Dalic could thus be thought to be saving the prolific Ghanaian striker as a precautionary measure.
The Boss are third in Group B ahead of their third game in this season’s continental contest against Pakhtakor.
