The special taskforce set up by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to investigate the recent police recruitment fraud says it has completed its work awaiting the Attorney General’s advice.
The police said interdicted Director General of Police Human Resource and Administration, COP Patrick Timbillah together with two other police personnel and 11 civilians has been found to be involved in the scam.
Director of Police Public Affairs Supt. Cephas Arthur tells Joy News the taskforce’s report has been handed over to the Police Council for action.
“In all 14 people including three police officers have been investigated in the [recruitment] fraud. So these are the people whose docket is being prepared.”
Supt. Arthur noted, “We are working assiduously to ensure that as soon as possible, having garnered all the requisite pieces of evidence, we forward it to the police so that they can also be expeditiously handled. So we wouldn’t be able to give a time line but we can assure you that we will work fast and efficiently.”
Earlier this week a member of the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markins questioned the neutrality of the police investigations.
He rather recommended the president established a ministerial committee to investigate the recruitment scam, which he said the Inspector General of Police himself should appear before it.
