The Ghana Health Service has confirmed to Joy News it has detected a case of swine flu in the capital and another in the Western Region.
Details are sketchy but the Director General of the Ghana Health Services, Dr. Elias Sory, says researchers at the ministry are conducting a series of tests on the case.
He however says this case in Accra is not related to a publication in the Today Newspaper about a reported case at Efia Nkwanta Hospital in the Western Region.
He said samples of the Western Region case have only arrived in Accra for laboratory tests.
A media briefing is expected later Thursday on the swine flu discovered in Accra and the reported case at Efia Nkwanta Hospital.
Swine flu is a deadly respiratory disease caused by a strain of the influenza type A virus known as H1N1.
