The Ghana Health Service has presented 20 motor bikes valued at 120,000 dollars to some health institutions in the Ashanti Region.
The beneficiary institutions are in the Asante-Mampong Municipality, Ejura Sekyedumase and the Sekyere Central districts.
Madam Rebecca Dokurugu, Acting Asante-Mampong Municipal Director of Health Services, said a number of vehicles and motor bikes used for health outreach programmes in the districts had broken down, making it difficult for health workers to reach remote communities. The presentation was therefore a welcome relief to augment the transport system.
She said 40 health workers made up of Community Health Nurses, Disease Control Officers, Nutrition Officers and Medical Assistants were undergoing a week’s training on motor bike riding to enable them to use the bikes efficiently.
She called for more logistics to help the health facilities to deliver quality services to the people at their doorstep.
