The Auditor General’s Department has described as productive a meeting between the outfit and members of pressure group Occupy Ghana.

Even though Richard Asiedu the Auditor General made some concessions that the Department has not done much in retrieving monies misapplied by public officials he was quick to add that the convention has been that his outfit urges management of institutions cited in the Auditor General’s report to recover those monies.

The Department also disclosed that it has never advised the Attorney-General to pursue monies misapplied by State officials.

Mr. Asiedu was speaking in a closed-door meeting with pressure group, Occupy Ghana on Friday.

Occupy Ghana met with the Auditor General this morning over a request to be furnished with documents covering works the Department has done to recover funds allegedly misappropriated by public officers. 

Last year, the group threatened to drag the Auditor General to court within 30 days if it fails to recover State funds illegally paid to some individuals.

A source at today’s meeting told Joy News’ Kwetey Nettey that Mr. Richard Asiedu informed the pressure group that after the Department has presented its report to Parliament, there is an obligation on the auditee to address the issues in the report.
