Every constituency executive officer of the New Patriotic Party shall vote in regional executive elections should proposed amendments endorsed by the National Council of the party be accepted at the national delegates conference on Saturday.
The recommendation was made, among others, at the National Council’s meeting on April 28, 2009 and captured in proposals sent to constituencies in accordance with Article 19 of the party’s constitution.
A statement issued by the party Wednesday and signed by Mr. Kwaku Kwarteng, NPP Communications Director, said any document supposedly by the National Council that suggests that constituency officers shall not vote in regional executive elections is incorrect.
“The rationale behind including all constituency executives in the election of regional executives is to make the process more democratic and to strengthen the party at the constituency level.
“To further strengthen the party at the constituency level, it has been proposed that the electoral college for electing constituency officers be expanded to include all polling station executives. This amendment, if it is passed, would make the election of constituency executives more democratic, and improve the party’s chances of retaining its hardworking and known constituency officers,” the statement concluded.
