SOS Children’s Villages Ghana, as part of its efforts to provide quality education to Ghanaian children, has launched a four year project called QUALITY EDUCATION NOW. 

The project forms part of its community intervention efforts to extend its quality education model to deprived communities.

SOS Children’s Villages Ghana is well noted for the quality of education it has provided Ghanaians over the past forty years, through its Hermann Gmeiner Schools in Tema, Asiakwa, Kumasi and Tamale.

 In his address at the launch of the project, the National Director of SOS Children’s Villages Ghana, Mr. Alexander Kekula stressed the importance of the project;

“The overall objective of the project is, ‘Sustainable Quality Education Delivery through empowerment at school, community and district levels’ and I am particularly optimistic that the objectives of our new project, ‘Quality Education Now’ will be met”

He also said that through the works of the organization, they had become aware of some obstacles that hindered the attainment of quality education delivery in Ghana. Some of these included the inadequate funding of basic education, low involvement of relevant stakeholders in education delivery, inadequate monitoring and supervision by school heads, school children’s inability to read and do simple arithmetic, and many other innumerable challenges.

 He therefore, challenged stakeholders of children education that by the end of the next four years, when the project had come to an end, head teachers, teachers, Parents Teachers Associations members, circuit supervisors and community members should all function at the maximum potential so the children would have the full benefit of their education.

In his address, the Chief of Mataheko, Nene Martey Kpongbagbla III, highly commended SOS Children’s Villages Ghana for its continuous effort at ensuring care and support for orphans and vulnerable families in society, and also adding “QUALITY EDUCATION” for all children.

He stressed that the change in the world’s system called for traditional, educational, religious and other authorities to team up with relevant partner-institutions such as SOS Children’s Villages Ghana to get a holistic education for all.

Nene Kpongbagbla assured SOS Children’s Villages Ghana of his support as well as that of his people to achieve this sustainable quality education for this generation and for posterity.

The Project Coordinator of QUALITY EDUCATION NOW, Mr. Bernard Amoako, asked for the kind support of all the various stakeholders to ensure a successful project. He also said that the project was in tandem with the orgnaization’s vision which says “Every child belongs to a family and grows with love, respect and security.”

Speaking to the media, The National Communications and Fund raising Advisor, Nii Commey stressed that SOS Children’s Villages Ghana, has over the past forty years been well noted for its quality provision of long term family based care. But what people did not know was the fact the child welfare organization had with dedication served deprived communities across the country, with more than five thousand beneficiary families.
