Five security men of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have been surcharged over the disappearance of a pick-up vehicle worth Ȼ50,000 belonging to the Accra West Branch of the company.

The vehicle with registration number GT 6857 – 11, reportedly got missing from the company’s yard at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in 2014.

A year after the vehicle mysteriously disappeared, the police are yet to unravel circumstances under which the vehicle disappeared.

Director of Human resource at ECG Lawrence Osei-Kuffour said the traffic officer of the company took the vehicle for an official assignment but returned it.

However, on the night of 19 Feb 2014 the vehicle was reported missing.

When security men on duty that day were questioned, they denied knowing the whereabouts of the vehicle.

A committee set up to investigate the issue recommended that the traffic officer Frank Yaw Buah be dismissed, but that decision was reversed because it emerged that he was not the only one who had access to the keys to the vehicle.

The committee, therefore recommended that the five security men who were on duty the day the vehicle got missing be surcharged for the theft.

Until the vehicle is found, the five security men will have to use part of their salaries to pay for it.
