For Kotoko, the word 'shake-up' is not new.
In fact, it is expected every few years. And now the 2015 instalment is here.
This week, the management of club have announced plans to embark on a 'shake-up' within the playing body, following the team’s exit from the Caf Champions League on Sunday.
“A shake-up within the playing body is eminent because some of our players are simply not committed to the team’s cause,” charged Samuel Opoku-Nti, the General Manager.
If the past decade is any indicator, 'shake-up' means some regular players will be benched, sold. Or, maybe, benched and sold.
“I think the time has come for us to crack the whip”, he said, noting that their defeat at the hands of El-Eulma could have been avoided if the playing body had demonstrated seriousness and tactical discipline on the field of play.
After losing 2-1 at home to Algerian side El Eulma, the Reds have endured a difficult few days of soul-searching that has sometimes been brutal and vindictive.
“The management did all that it could to motivate the players to strive for excellence, but some of our boys did not realize the task ahead of them.”
The accusations have by no means been limited to him. Influential figures in and out of the club have weighed in, suggesting fatigue, lack of seriousness or the watching of too much pornography - as popular football administrator Kofi Manu sensationally claimed.
Speaking to GNA Sports in Kumasi, the administrator apologized for the umpteenth time for this latest failure.
