Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Professor K.K. Adarkwah says the freeze on public sector employment by government has seriously constrained its expansion drive. The situation he said has compelled the university to turn away several qualified applicants as a result of non availability of teaching staff. Addressing students at this year’s matriculation, Professor Kwafo Adarkwah said out of over 19 thousand applicants the university could only offer admission to six thousand students. Out of the number 337 students came from less endowed senior high schools. Prof. Adarkwah said resource constraints have undermined the university resolve to enhance tertiary education. He said as part of the university’s strategic objective to increase access to science and technology, the faculty of distance learning has been strengthened to address the problems of industry and rural communities.
