Former Hearts of Oak defender Dan Quaye believes the current set up of the Phobians is markedly different from vaunted 64 Battalion side he featured for.
Led by coach Attuquayefio, Hearts of Oak put together a stellar team that won the 2000 Caf Champions League, the 2001 Caf Super Cup and the 2004 Caf Confederations Cup.
Quaye was part of that team which also won six straight league titles between 1999 and 2002.
“I will say that the team of the year 2000 was very different. I call it a dream team and I hope this current team will replicate what we did.”
But this current team is a long way away from that side in terms of discipline, skill and sheer dominance. Quaye, who now plays for Olympics, feels the progress of this Herbert Addo led team in Africa so far should not lead to complacency.
“Even though Hearts won in Mali, Djoliba are also coming to Ghana to get a result. The Phobians must be determined to qualify so they must prepare very well.”
Hearts, who have already scaled two previous rounds, will play against Mali side Djoliba on Sunday the Accra Sports Stadium in a second leg of the Caf Confederations Cup game.
