Former Hearts coach Mohammed Polo says current boss Herbert Addo is struggling to stamp his authority on the team.
The Phobians have not been consistent in the First Capital Plus Premier League as they lie 10th with 20 points after the first half of the season.
Their Caf Confederation Cup campaign has, however, been good. But Polo, who was in charge before Addo, says Hearts are floundering.
“[Herbert Addo] is still struggling. You saw what happened to him against Djoliba AC. They won in Bamako and came to Ghana to fumble,” he told Joy Sports.
“There is a direction and everybody has their own way of doing things but I believe we must encourage those who have played football because that is their life.
“If we are going to encourage people who have just read the book and have not played to the highest level as coaches then we have a big problem.
“If you go to Europe is the former players who are coaches now so I believe if you check what I did at Hearts and what Herbert is doing now, you can all see the difference.”
Hearts play Esperance in the third round of the Confederations Cup this weekend.
