The New Patriotic Party says the coat-of-arms embossed podium on which Nana Akufo-Addo addressed mourners in Upper East was provided by the Regional Coordinating Council.
Questions have been raised, especially on social media about the propriety of the use of the podium by the NPP flagbearer during the observation of the Adua for the late Adams Mahama who was assaulted with acid and died from the complications.
Critics including presidential staffer Sam George did not spare Akufo Addo for the use of the podium.
He wrote on his facebook wall: "Really? The Coat of Arms is the sole preserve of the President of Ghana. What 'specie' of frustration is this? This is borderline treasonable. Who are his handlers for Christ's sake?"
Another critic also said on facebook: "No, No, No....Mr. Akufo Addo, this is quite disgusting, your disrespect to the presidency has reached it's threshold, how on earth should opposition leader use a podium with an inscription of coat of arms, representing the highest order or office of the land. Fortunately or unfortunately you have vindicated my point that you have no respect for the rule of law governing our state."
But speaking to Myjoyonline.com, Director of Communications Nana Akomea said the NPP flagbearer had nothing to do with the podium.
He said the podium was provided by the Regional Coordinating Council and Nana Akufo-Addo used it like any other person who addressed the mourners on the day.
He said the programme was also attended by the Regional Minister and other key government representatives all of whom addressed the mourners on the same podium.

The Deputy National Organiser of the NDC Joshua Akamba.
